A linear walk from Southwell to Farnsfield.  The first mile is alongside the River Greet to Maythorne, then along a quiet road to Kirklington and across fields to Farnsfield.

More detailed directions can be provided if you contact me.

Start: Near the Final Whistle pub in Southwell to the north of the town centre and The Burgage.  There is a car park by the Southwell Trail.

Finish:  Farnsfield

Distance: 9.2 km

Map of the Route

Brief description of the Route

From the car park go to the road and turn left.  Go over the River Greet near the tall old mill building.  Just past the mill turn left along a path which soon follows the bank of the river.

Follow the river on this sometimes muddy path for a mile, where the path turns away from the river briefly.  At this point look for where the path goes left through a hedge and rejoins the river.  You see the buildings of Maythorne and can cross the river a little further on to go into Maythorne and from there to the Southwell Trail where you turn left to return to the start.

My route doesn't go into Maythorne.  Instead continue into a field and cross this and another then turn right uphill to reach a quiet road.  Turn left and follow this for a mile to Kirklington.  Fifty metres after you meet the A617 turn left onto a path past a barn and across a field.  This meets the Greet at a narrow footbridge.  Cross it then bear right through the wood.  Leave the wood and turn left for 100m then go through a gap to the right and into a field.

Cross this downhill to a pond and go over a footbridge.  Turn right by a stream for 100m then turn left by a field and right onto a path which goes past houses and out to a road.  Turn right for 100m, cross the road onto a farm road on the left.  Go up this for 300m then near the farm entrance turn left into a field by a stile.

Follow a path that soon turns right and stay on this by the hedge to the end.  Turn right and follow the hedge on your left to reach a very large field.  Cross this on a clear path for 400m to reach the Southwell Trail which you cross and follow the route of Walk 2 into Farnsfield.
